Bull fighting Bear sculpture from Austria

Category
Ceramics and Porcelains
Condition
Excellent
Description

This is a sculpture of a Bull fighting a Bear.  It has been in my family for over 100 years.  My 89 year old Aunt gave this to me and said that it was brought to the United States from Austria many years ago by our ancestors.  When she was just a little girl, she remembers seeing it on her grandmothers piano.  It is signed and dated and has markings on the bottom of it.  If there is a way I can send pictures of the markings on the bottom, I will.  I believe it is most important to see this as well.  I am interested in knowing the history of this sculpture, and if it is of any value.  If there is value, then there may be the option to sell in the future.  Thank You, S.H.

Mahogany Arm Chair Cerule, Savonarola, X-Frame

Category
Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

This chair has been in my family for a very long time.  It would have been purchased in New York City either between 1898 and 1904 or else in the very early 1920's.  I'm not sure if it bought when my Great-Grandparents came to America or if it was purchased when my Grandparents married.

The wood is mahogony and hand carved.  There are lion's' paws feet and the back and arms have lion's heads.  The upholstery in the pictures is not the original.  The upholstery you see was done between 1958 and 1963.  The original upholstery was an aquamarine silk.

I have heard the style of chair referred to as cerrule, savonarola, and x-frame.  Though some of these styles are folding chairs, this chair is not.

I would appreciate any information anyone may have on my chair.

Thanks,

Gwen

In the late 1980's I  purchased a Borkholder table w/4 bow back windsor chairs and 2 bow back captain windsor

chairs and a  hoosier cabinet made of soid pine. I was informed that the furniture was made by the Amish.

The furniture is engraved and is in beautiful condition. Interested in the value today and where I should list to sell it?

Thank you.
