This table is very ornate and beautiful. In wonderful shape for what I suspect (and I hope I'm right) is a very old table. The marble is a beautiful grayish and white and has one small 2 1/2 inch crack that can be seen but not felt. There are holes in the top of the table but none in the marble that is molded and bevelled to fit it. The casters on this table are porcelain and steel I think. Beautiful piece. Can anyone tell me what time period this may be?
This unique timepiece is fitted with a solid brass 8-day wind-up movement created exclusively by Hemle & Sohn of Germany and consists of a cobalt blue glass earth-globe accented with 24 karat gold, a satellite moon of blue lace agate and a time band which revolves with the moon as it circles the globe. It also contains a battery operated digital display that counts down the days to the year 2000 and can be re-set to display the month, day and year. The clock is embellished with richly engraved plates and rests on columns of genuine marble accented with 24 karat gold. The entire work is mounted in a clear glass dome.
It is a highly artistic carving of the Hindu Godess Lakshmi. She is represented sitting on a large lotus flower, one leg folded into the center, one leg resting on the ground. Two of her four arms are directed upwards, hands holding lotus flowers, one other hand presents the Abhaya Mudra ( gesture of protection)and one hand is in the Varada Mudra ( gift giving gesture). The entire figure is richly dressed, every millimiter is carved, the benevolent expression on her face is captivating.
A quarter-sawn oak "modular" filing cabinet. The cabinet is made of three drawer sections (Base, Mid, Top) plus the top cap. All sections, and top cap, held together with long brass pins. The small knob at the bottom of the bottom section has an intertwined SM or MS. I have not been able to identify that maker's mark.
