Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Inlaid and Glazed SECRETAIRE/ Desk/Bookcase/Side cabinet
with lift top and writing space

A stunning example of a Secretaire Chest, 100 years old and very beautiful.
Color is between Rosewood and mahogany;

It is originally made by Colonial Manufacturing Co. of Zeeland, Mich., a famous maker of hall clocks, whose stamp is on this lovely piece of furniture.
Origanaly established (1899-1985) plant moved to Zeeland, MI, ca.1910 and worked there till 1947 , when plant went to Kent of Grand Rapids.The stamp shows ZEELAND,we estimate it was made within 30 y period between 1910-1946..

The Top Section, above four flush drawers,
opens by pressing metal button/latch on the left side with help of 2 metal hinges on both sides.

Once it becomes opened writing surface, inside there are:
4 small lovely drawers: 5, ½ “ x 5,1/2” x 1,1/2” with brass pull out knob;
in between these 4 drawers are 2 horizontal spaces and 2 vertical spaces for letters, papers, cards.
The opened writing surface is 12” deep (30.5 cm).
It features inlaid polished leather with 2 lines of stamped into the surface design like scroll and flowers.
One line is on seam with wood surface, the other is 0.5” from the edge.
Below Section has four (4) drawers and 2 sides.

Drawers dimensions: 24 “length (62 cm), x 12 “wide (31 cm), x 5” deep (15 cm).
The thickness of the side and back wood panels is 3/8” (1 cm.
The front drawers’ face mahogany wood is thick 1” (3 cm .
There are 2 brass handles on each drawer. Length of handle is 5” (12.5 cm).
Each side of each handle sits on the base made of 12 petals’ flower.
On the left and right side of the drawers are storage cupboards with 2 shelves, making 3 levels of storage space. Doors have metal lines crisscrossing in diamond shapes, allowing air inside.
The shelves are same colour and quality like sides of drawers, ie, very firm, and beautiful.

The fronts of the secretaire drawers and doors to the side cabinets have been inlaid with a moulded design.
The doors are Mahogany and are lockable. Both have small keys.
The sides of the cabinet are solid mahogany.
The legs are carved feet 5” tall ( 12.5 cm)
Overall a really stunning piece of workmanship and obviously previously loved and cared for.

Condition report: overall good, lacquer finish wear consistent with age and use, structurally sound .
Weight :approx 55 lbs ( estimated- one drawer is 5 lbs)
