I found this cup and saucer set in Copper Harbor, an extremely small town in the upper peninsula of Michigan with year-round population of about 80. I have no idea how old it is, I just saw it and I liked it. The filigree is extremely intricate, and the mark on the bottom is in blue, which generally means it is older. The image appears to be two people either having a pick-nick or putting things in baskets. I can't tell...pictures are below
I found this item in an antique store in Salt Lake City. Torch and portion of scroll were apparently replaced at a later date but are a good match (altho patina is different, of course.) Have really enjoyed the piece, but moving overseas.
possibly brought back by great grandmother from china where she and my great grandfather (army colonel ira c. welborn) were stationed just after boxer rebellion in early 1900s. or possibly came with old cottage in maine formerly owned by sea captain who brought back many items from asia. no one left in family who remembers the history of this item.
Information on it. It is one of those toys that the Movie Theaters used to give away to children back in the 30's-40's-50's ect. The toy is a lead (Popeye) figure that was made and given out in 1929. Popeye first came out in 1929 and started off as cartoon shorts before the feature film started. It is very possibly one of the 1st Popeye toys ever produced and given out. He is about. 2 1/2 inches tall Green Base for standing, with Blue , red , yellow, and white oil based paint. On his back is stamped the following: MADE IN USA (G) "in a circle" 1939 E.F.S
Was told by a Amateur Antique Collector it's value could be between 800-1200 USD, however he was an amateur. That is all I know about it. Very interested in value of item.
