Years ago,I inherited about 100 various pieces of sterling(candy dishes, candlesticks, etc, but I was curios about the full tea service. The base of each piece is octagonal and the beveled-shape continues to the top of each piece. The 'Grecian'appearing handles have joints of ivory or pearl. The latest(Winter 2008) Gumps catalogue has a squatter but similar looking piece on it's cover.I believe these family heirlooms came from either Austria or England,or perhaps Gorham in NY,because that is where everything they bought came from. Each piece is very angular, not bowl-like;I will send pictures if necessary, but I'm hoping the description will work. These are the few pieces that are not monogrammed that I have.Thank you.
Oriental tea set inherited 30 years ago from great aunt who obtained it while in far east somewhere I believe. Main pieces are all in excellent condition. Some of the plates have cracks apparent in them - not unexpected as the porcelain is very fine(eggshell?). Quality of hand decoration is remarkable and depicts various species of birds. Mark shown is possibly factory/ artist's mark. Any info as to factory, artist or area of manufacture would be appreciated.
2 Japanese woodblock prints behind glass sealed with paper. Behind is a paper triangle with perforation for hanging and a string attached. Picture of a roadside scene vantage from the hills looking down. Below is a restaurant?/tea house?/inn? behind is a bay/cay/cove. No obvious landmark or recognizable scene from his popular works. Second is non-signed work appears to be the same artist but different vantage point.
