This old rocking chair has written on the bottom "Bought in Pontack 1835" The wood is aged and polished in spots from much use, has a lot of dull and dingy areas, and has an uneven dark coloring with a green cast. There are no modern fasteners used however there have been repairs made to the fractured spindles that had incorporated a few old tacks and such. Although the fractures are evident and not painted over, the repairs have held well and it is solid. The wood that is exposed in the polished areas appears to be Cherry wood. This rocker appears to be handmade and uses dowel and wedge to join the seat to the spindles. I don't know any history of this piece as I acquired it from an individual that was moving about 20 years ago. I have no idea of its value or worth.
