Re: Antique Porcelain Urn Nippon Hand Painted
Its hard for me to tell from only two pictures and no close ups but from what Ive seen Nippon in Blue with the letter M centered is one of the most coppied pieces because of how long ago this period was. Nippon is the Japanese word for Japan. In the early 1900s USA made it so all countries had to mark their pieces with their English Marking. However there are many exceptions to this it wasnt really inforced and a genuine Nippon piece can go for a good amount. This is a gorgous decorative vase or urn and I would definately suggest putting up more pictures. Im by no means an expert but I have done alot of research. I have seen several piece with simular markings. Taking a look to see if you see any signs of age like crazing, small cracks or lines. Look at it with a magnifying glass, Does it have any small pits with different amounts of dirt inside each on and differnt shapes as well, or ruff spots. Reproductions can be made to look old but true age is harder to fake. If the surface cracks or slight scrapes are going in the same direction or the bottom rip is very smooth no wear marks that can sometime indicate a reproduction. But like I said There are also those kept in excellent condition and it could be a genuine valued Nippon piece, that would be worth appraising but I don't know for sure. The bottom mark does appear to match others Ive seen. I wish you well . I hope I have helped you.
