German Stainless Steel Flatware

Description

Set of six knives and six forks in felt pocket holders.   Handles are either made from an antler of a deer or are ivory of some sort.  Cannot tell.  Stainless steel.

Given to me by my mother-in-law 32 years ago.  She received it as a wedding gift in 1928. Insignia on knives says  NIROSTA.  -  Gottlieb Hammesfahr, Solingen, Foche with a triangle and a + inside the triangle.

Researched it the best I can but can find nothing about this particular set.

The handles appear to be bone, but a great many sets of this type also use deer antler or a early form of plastic formed to resemble it. Sets like this were very popular from the 1880's through the 1920's and made in huge numbers. They still exist in very large numbers today, so values for them tend to be modest. We often see sets like this sell for under $45.00 at auction. Here's a link for you:
