Description

This is a Tichelaar Makkum decorative wall plate. It is called "flow blue" because the hand painted designs blend with the glaze (I believe).

The plate is 10 3/4" diameter, and is a deep dish at 1 3/4" tall.

The blue designs on a  creamy gray  background include sunflowers and geometric shapes. They have an Oriental appearance to me.

The mark on the back is hand written in blue (see photos).

Category Ceramics and Porcelains
Medium ceramic
Distinguishing marks The hallmark is a hand drawn shield in blue with two crossed reaping tools, and the word, "Makkum". There are also initials and some unintelligible letters/numbers. see photo. As is common for these plates, there are a couple of very small chips behind the rim, but they are not readily visible from the front.
