These are the oriental equivalent of cedar chests made by Lane, instead of cedar they use camphor wood, which resists insects, rot and mold. Most of these are 20th century pieces, brought back by troops stationed in South east Asia since WW2. you did well to get it for $45.00, at auction they sell for about $150.00.
