The original manufacturer's document reads:
"Towle's Limited Edition Sterling CHRISTMAS PLATE
This is the first in a series of four limited edition Christmas Plates in solid silver made by the Towle Silversmiths whose craft traditions extend back to 1690. This plate features the symbols of six major world religions and a quotation from each on the need for brotherhood, understanding, and love among peoples of the world. Each plate in the series will be an original design that will never be available again. All plates will be solid silver, 10 1/2 " in diameter, and numbered consecutively. Only 2,500 of each plate will be made before destroying the dies forever.
Towle Silversmiths, Newburyport, Massachussetts, 01950
<> No. 244"
Engraving on the back of the plate identifies the six symbols, along with a quotation from each religion on the brotherhood of man.
very nice......although i
Collectors plates of all
Collectors plates of all types were originally sold with the inference that they were rare and would become valuable pieces in the future. The problem being that the market became so jammed up with these 'ready made collectibles' by the 1990's the "Game was up". Few if any collectors plates ( with the exception of early Christmas plates) even hold their original retail value, even after 30 years from their issue date.
This plate though has the added value of its silver content, which means its value will never drop below its weight in silver. Currently comparable plates sell at auction for under $150.00Â
