I bought this picture from an antique store in Illinois about 20 years ago. It was sold to me as an authentic picture of Jesse James. I don't remember what I paid for it but I would guess under $100.
Not a picture expert but this seems too new to be him. The ears are not right if you compare it to known photos of him. Also no photos of him with hair combed down, always back off the face. He was only 35 when he died and had hair then that you can see on death photos and it was combed back then and much thicker.
There are very few original photos of him and I imagine if this was one it would have cost many times what you paid for it. May be some JJ experts could tell you for sure but my amateur detective work says no.
This appears to be an image of a Jesse James look-a-like that was disseminated during the Wild West collecting hay-days of the 1960s and 70s. The sitter looked enough like James to make delighted collectors buy, and small, out-of-the-way antique shops all over the country ended up with their own original of the original "bad guy."
