Description
I recently acquired this tea pot from an antiques fair, the seller was unable to tell me any information about it. I have search all the relevant websites and have been unable to find anything about it. It has marks on the bottom which read H.W LTD, C , P, B , M. It then has the numbers 1445 gill, stamped into it. I have attached pictures to help.
Re: Silver? Teapot
It's most likely to read E.P.B.M. -Electro Plated Base Metal. This is a Georgian style silver plated teapot made in the late 19th or early 20th century. HW Ltd could be for Henry Wilkinson and Company a mass manufacturer of plated goods in Sheffield, England in the 1870's to 1890's. A gill is an imperial measure of liquid equivalent to a quarter pint; 5 gill is a standard size for a teapot - perhaps the 144 relates to a pattern number. They don't fetch a lot of money but are still eminently usable. Regards, Simon
