A friend gave me this a few years back and I believe it to be Notre Dame. I have always wondered about it's history and who the artist was. There could very well be a signature on it at the very bottom- but I have not wanted to remove it from the frame. I'm guessing it is either a pencil or charcoal etching/drawing. (I know NOTHING about fine art!) The style in which it is done makes it almost appears as if it lace! From the arched entrances at the bottom of the cathedral, to the flags waving in the breeze atop the towers, I have counted 89 people- not including the people on the street. It is SO intricate and detailed, and at such a small scale- it makes it difficult to really appreciate the artwork and many, many hours it must have surely taken to create this. I have spent alot of time researching this piece, and although I have come across several that are quite similar- I have been unable to positively identify the artist. It resembles other pieces done by HENRI LE RICHE and also that of various other artists. I would like to offer this item for sale- but not until I find out some information as to it's origin and value.

Re: Very Old Etching - NOTRE DAME
It is indeed Notre Dame and I too believe it is by Henri Le Riche. I collect Hudson School etchings but at one time purchase one identical to yours because my wife liked it and the very gothic frame it came with. Mine was also unsigned and the same size as yours. If I remember right I purchased it on eBay for approximately $100 dollars or so. Mine was in absolute pristine condition with no marks, stains or frame damage. Hope this helps you out.
