Description
I have a pair of Staffordshire Ware Red & White Spaniel Dogs and was wondering if they were authentic or fakes. Also, what is their value? They are marked on the bottom as follows: Staffordshire Ware Kent Made In England" with a rope tied in a knot logo. Thank you for your assistance.
Re: 7 /12" Red & White Staffordshire Ware Kent Dogs
Certainly they are original, in that they are from a mold style that is actually quite famous. Many have been made. If you are asking if they are old, I don't think so.
If you watch Anne of Green Gables - this is the ceramic dog pair that was used by the author in the story. The original set are at the original homestead in PEI , Canada. Unfortunately one of the pair was broken so they only have one now.
The book/show popularized this form for quite a while, so it does appeal to fans of the story! This also means that this form has been reproduced many times over the years. I believe them to be a late reproduction of this very interesting form. Lot's of sentimental value, limited dollar value compaired to the original run though.
Hope that helps!

Re: 7 /12" Red & White Staffordshire Ware Kent Dogs
These are not original Staffordshire dogs, they are fairly modern 20th century reproductions of originals made in the 1840's. Anything marked "made in" generally does not predate the early 1920's
