Timber bound hand written book. Please help with any information.

By Troyzy, 4 November, 2011
Description

This book comes in a double leather carry case, one case fully encloses the book then slips inside the other case wich has a shoulder strap or carry handle. The leather is either old and worn or is more tuff skin like leather with some sort of old brown coating. The book itself is timber bound has  about 175 - 200 pages that look to be made of skin. Spine is open and all hand sewen in forms. The writing looks to done with reed in Black and red in a language i dont reconise. Looks like it may have had many different owners as there are a lot of seperate parragraphs on the first page. I would like to price this so that i can see if it is worth selling, or just keep to pass on to the kids. Thankyou for your time.

Questions

Where did you get this item?

Where did it come from?

Could it possibly be something left behind by a chinese railroad worker?

Maybe it was a log book for workers.  I have no real clue but am interested in old books.  I think that this must have been very important to the owner as it was protected so well.  It could even be a religious book for all we know.  I would be interested to know more about the book.

Questions

Items like this really require the services of a Antiquarian book dealer and a physical examination of the item to determine what you have. I'd suggest taking it to a local museum to get a referral .
