A silver jar, dated 1748, with a family coat of arms inside, some other outside. You can see written "95%" on the bottom of the jar, we suggest it means 95% of silver. Photo of the jar speaks of itself.

We've got it as a present from one German Collector (living in Frankfurt). It is family thing, taken from the house of famous doctor.
looks to be pewter. u should have it tested,or, look for a lion hallmark on it anywhere,which is a mark for sterling. i believe the 1748 is not the yr. it could be a founding yr of the maker,some companies do that. just some thoughts to look into but please dont holdfast to my words. just some things ive learned. best wishes.
It's pewter, the older examples will have what's called a "touchmark" that can indicate a maker and quality of the pewter. The 95% marking is an indicator that the pewter used to make it is higher quality , being only 5% lead.
