This is a lovely dining room set inherited from my husband's Aunt. He thinks she purchased it either in the 1930's or 40's. He thinks it is walnut. There is a 60 inche table with 5 side chairs, a captain chair, buffet and china cabinet. The table also has the original table pad. There are 16 inch extensions at both ends of the table. The furniture is in excellent condition. The only label I could find was inside the buffet drawer and it shows Rockford Furniture B Line. We are not interesting in selling but would like a value of these pieces.
Re: Antique Dining room set
anyone have a idea of the value of this set?
Re: Antique Dining room set
Based on your images of this set is in a style often referred to as "Jacobean Revival". The style getting it's name from the fact it was loosely designed toresemble furniture made during the reign of James the 1st ( 1603-24), but uses design elements found on furniture madeuntil the late 17th Century under the reigns of Charles I and Charles II as well.
Jacobean Revival furniture has been in continuous production in both England and Europe since the last quarter of the19th Century ( Circa 1875). Values for these pieces depends more on their quality of construction and attention to detailthan their vintage, many are handmade high quality pieces, others are mass produced with a mix of hand and machinecarving. Yours is a mid range quality example, constructed of quarter sawn oak, and likely made no earlier than the 1920's. We see these go at auction for $700- $1000.00
