Description
18" doll in uniform. Appears to have some sort of hard cover..perhaps a type of plastic. over pressed wood. Comes with arms and legs seperate that connect with wire loops. Hat is hard and connected as one piece to body and the uniform is a light brown cloth.
Re: General MacArthur Doll
Do you still have this doll? If yes is it still for sale and how much do you want for it? Thanks
Re: General MacArthur Doll
The Freundlich Novelty Corp. of New York City made your portrait doll and a lot of other World War II military dolls--from U.S. Army soldiers and Navy sailors to WAACs and WAVEs. Your doll's body, including his cap, is made of composition, a mixture of sawdust and glue that can be easily molded. The General Douglas MacArthur doll was made about 1942. If you had his original tie, belt, and cardboard tag, you might be able to get up to $400 for him in an online auction or at a doll auction. Without the tie, belt, and tag, chances are your doll would sell at auction for about $100 to $200. If you decide to sell it to a dealer in your area, you can expect the dealer to pay you about half the doll's retail value
Now, here is the problem. was there any buttoms? maybe removed? is the belt on backwards? Does tie and belt remove? Most of the jackets seen have buttons..
there was some dollls made in the 1950's not as well done as the 1942's.
"NOTE" I'm not an expert on dolls. Good Luck
Re: General MacArthur Doll
The above description of the doll is correct although the value is overstated. I've collected and restored dolls of many types for more than 25 years. There are many collectors guides one can refer to although ebay has become the premire sight for value guides. In doing a search on completed listings for this doll I've found that the average selling price of an "all original" General McArthur dolls is $50.00. Freundlich made some interesting dolls back in the day although they do not bring very high prices in today's market.
This doll in it's current condition which is fair to poor may bring $20 at the top end. It is in need of repair and finding the items to restore it back to original is next to impossible. The type of buyer it will attract is someone who restores dolls and the average collector will pass it by. In the doll collecting world "all original" is almost sacred, once this is lost and or the doll has been repaired the price plumets to near nothing and is hardly ever regained with some exceptions of course.
Re: General MacArthur Doll
Intuit57 I just re-read my reply. I did state that on a retail value should be half (in poor condition) of the $100.00 thats $50.00 top end.. I wasn't that far off, I should have stated in current condition $20.00..............I was close.....question for you, why is the clothes on this doll look so diff, then all the others I seen? (ebay has become the premire sight for value guides) Sometimes I wish EBay never came on-line...
Everything is only worth what someone is willing to pay you.
Re: General MacArthur Doll
From what I can surmise of the Freundlich dolls in general is that they made sever different styles of clothing and body shapes for their dolls in manufacture. What I've seen of the McArthur doll is two different uniforms, one being more of a dress uniform and the other casual. The photos of this doll are small and difficult to tell although I believe the uniform to be casual. Unfortunately it is missing the brass buttons and also the round pin (badge) which said "win or die" On another note the jacket may be a home made replacement. Just guessing about the replacement since the pics are so small.
