Hello out there,
Any idea where these came from?
What they may be worth? As a Set of 2?
These were handed down to me by family, have been around the house since at least 1970.
Fencing (Foils, I believe) swords,
43..5 inches in length end to end.
the handle is made of wood, hard leather, or possibly a molded plastic, not sure.
the design on the blade extends up about 10" from the bell.
The blade is rectangular
the blade end is flattened or "blunt".

Based on their appearance these were made for decorative use as "Wall Hangers", often with a shield or Fencing mask of some sort. They are the sort of thing that was popular during the 1960's to 70's, no big value, comparable sets often sell for less than $100.00.

I never associated the two, fencing and shields, I have seen some of the "sets" I believe you are referring to. These don't seem quite a fit for that category to me.
These are more the quality, although old, of real fencing swords, and they also show wear from use.
They seem more durable than cheap decoration to me.

Genuine fencing swords are generally pretty "Plain Jane" utilitarian looking items, with very little in the way of decoration, just plain steel with wooden/wrapped handles. Most will have a company marking of some sort, country of origin etc...Even good quality late 19th to early 20th century marked examples often sell at auction for less than $100.00 a pair these days.

I looked at some other swords before I posted these here, I don't believe they are "sport" fencing foils, they don't seem like common wall hangers either.. The plating and design strongly suggest it, but the detail and quality don't.
