Armoire

By smweave, 19 November, 2023
Description

Armoire is 87" tall and 100" wide. It has three sections, the center section is 28" deep and the outer sections are 23" deep. The top is removable and it appears that the side sections can lift off the bottom piece so that it can be easier to move. The side sections have coat hooks on a sliding rail and the rail also has fixtures to install a rod.

3-section armoire

It's hard to tell from your photos, but your 3-section armoire looks to be late 19th century. Walnut veneer? Without being able to examine it closely I don't know if it's American or English. Unfortunately, pieces like these are a hard sell. The large size makes them hard to move and expensive to ship, even taken apart. You may realize $250-$400 at auction. Possibly more if someone is trying to furnish a large old home and there are no closets in the bedrooms.
I love old armoires, people are using them in their kitchens for storage and I think they look great like that! I've seen single section armoires used to house refrigerators!

It's Victorian, and like…

It's Victorian, and like many of them, sectional to allow moving them. This one appears to be walnut with burled veneer. They are a hard item to sell in the current market, the demand for victorian furniture out of favor since the 1990's. Still, to the right customer it could go to $1500.00, but far less at auction.
