I searched and found the same set on stock # 003Wfl56.
There is a leather binder with J.L. Stoddard's Portfolio of Photographs. Werner Company published the set. The set of 16 was published weekly for 16 weeks starting December 11, 1893. The pictures and text are undisturbed. The paper covering of sets 1, 2, 3 and some of 4 is ripped at the binding where staples held together. The entire set of pages are unharmed however. This seems to be an interesting piece of history especially since the entire set is there and the printing is unharmed.

From my understanding, my great-grandfather was interested in history and it makes sense that he would have owned and purchased this.
