A. Straski Oil

Category
Paintings
Condition
Good
Description

Abraham Straski (1903 – 1987) was a Polish born painter who moved to the United States after surviving the Nazi concentrations camps in the Holocaust. His works are usually representations of rabbis done in warm, rich colors.

Unfortunately this very talented artist spent his teen years in a Nazi Concentration Camp.

His work reflects only the rabbis of his youth who taught him violin, cello, and the torah remembrances of these men helped keep Straski's sanity during the ordeal of inhumane incarceration. Whenever possible he saved small pieces of scrap paper and made thumbnail sketches of his beloved teachers who he vowed would never be forgotten.

Straski's poignant portraiture of these men are owned and treasured by many who are not of the Jewish faith who consider a Straski "rabbi" an honour.

The wooden frame the canvas is attached to has a number 24 engraved in it.

Antique Chairs

Category
Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

There are 2 chairs that belonged to my grandparents back in the 60's, since then they've been in mother's posession.  During 1 of her moves, 1 of the turned spindles was damaged, repaired, and damaged again.  Should be able to be repaired again.  Great detail, they appear to be hand made? Photos of 2nd chair available on request.

Rococo style brass jardiniere

Category
Metalware
Condition
Fair
Description

I have a very interesting, heavy, brass coloured, decorative jardiniere in a Rococo style

I'm not sure what cast metal it is
It has two decorative handles, lots of scroll work and flowers and is on four feet.
It is extra shiny on the edges of the decorations

It has a removable tin? liner (painted gold)

Someone out there will know what this is (please tell me if you do)
It's weight gives it a scrap value, but it is far too good to scrap
Needs a really good clean

Would like to know approx age and value (if any)
Can't find any hallmarks sorry.
Many thanks if you can help.
