Its a 1920's era black bakelite phone, that works, and it is hooked up to ring. Dial turns, you can hear very well on it and I use it in my other room, I sometimes use it instead of modern phones to talk for you can hear very clearly on it. You can't dial out, but you can dial out on a modern phone and pick up the call as an extension phone.
