I bought 2 of these directly from China. They are supposed to be "The Art Of War" by Sun Su.
I have no idea if that is what they are really about but if you can read Chinese maybe you can tell me.
From what I have read about these they used to be manuscripts that were written on scripts of bamboo. They did not have book covers before. Both of mine do.
I was told that these were emperor books.
I bought these because I liked them and if they are genuine that will add even more.
The bamboo is bound together and there is a front cover and a back cover. The back has cloth glued to the back. They completely open up and make a manuscript that is over 6 feet in length.
Very unique.
I may offer one of the two for sale if the appraisal is really good.
it has about 4 hand painted scenes on the inside and outside of men, women and children, and one of flowers and birds. the outline and the bottom has flowers. there is a red hand painted chinese symbol on the bottom
This is a kerosene lamp, that could date back to the late nineteenth century. It appears to be handpainted - and the glass base of the lamp stands on a brass footed stand. The oil containers does not show any signs of leakage, and although the glass hurricane top is missing - all else is in tact.
Original fireplace built in 1926. Has beautiful details such as the doves (I think that's what they are) and indian on horseback, along with colored tiles here and there. This is located in Oklahoma. The condition is excellent. One tiny chip on a corner of the hearth is all there is.This has never been retouched or altered in any way. Completely original.
The wood part of the furniture is in excellent condition, but the leather on the chairs is cracking. There is a dining room table with 2 leaves and 10 chairs with leather seats that have a soldiers head carved into the leather. There is a china cabinet with beveled glass and 2sideboards. The drawers in the sideboard are dovetailed. There are soldier heads carved in the wood on the sideboards and china cabinet. There are other carvings on the furniture.
