Contacted the Smithsonian and they identifed the basket as African. Made by a slave or traveler from the Horn of Africa during the Taureg Era? Told it's a rare and valuable find, but like most museums they would not put a dollar amount on it. Need a value for insurance purposes, however, will sell if worth enough to pay off the second mortgage so I can get someone to refinance our home which is no longer worth what we paid.
The item was left in a home I bought. It is working condition with manual that belongs with it as well as catalog. I don't know much about it just that it was a unique piece.
This braclet has an unusal clasp, it is a straight pin with decorated top. It is my feeling that it is quite old. I am unaware of where my grandmother aquired it or at what time. She was born in Zurich and died there in January of 2011.
