This is a very old painting, litho, or print not really sure, by J L Prevost. Looked him up and lived from 1700's - 1810. Online his works go from $1,000 for lithos to 7,500.00 fro originals. If anyone can help with this I'd appreciate it. SHOULD I TAKE THE BACKING OFF CAREFULLY TO SEE WHAT'S UNDERNEATH THE MATTE? Any ideas?

I bought 2 of these at a garage sale - they are in very good condition. Only surface scratches that are easily buffed out. I am not sure what era this is or if it has any value. The legs are only 2" tall but are also carved. The main picture has flowers and a lot of dolphins. Could this be a Japanese influenced american piece? It is very dark wood but very solid There is not the traditional dove tailing on the drawers front but the backs have a 2 point dove tailing conecting the sides and they have a groove that they slide into the table on. Any information anyone can give me and what it could be worth is greatly appreciated.
