A reproduction of a Porringer Bowl in the Metropolitan Museum of Art ( Clearwater Collection Paul Revere Sr. ).
Made by Tiffany & Co. in 1896
Both side doors swing open. The doors are wood with glass panels. Behind the doors are 3 glass shelves on each side. The top center opens down. There is a drawer in the middle and the lower center section has a hinged door.
I am curious about the value of this piece. I am thinking about buying it for my husband. We are going to look at it tomorrow night (11/29). If someone could please give me an estimate, I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your help.
Good condition for age and history (sunk ship!), probably because made of brass so survived 15 years under sea. There are 4 in total, 2 of which have plaques.i can't get jpgs to upload so email me if you can help and I will send them to you. Thanks
PIC 1 SHOWS THE 4 CHIMES ABOUT 1" IN DIAMETER BETWEEN 43 AND 57 " LONG. PIC 2 SHOWS THE BACK COVER MADE OF SHEET METAL. PIC3 SHOWS THE FRONT OF THE BOX, THE LEVER ON THE RIGHT IS PULLEDDOWN TO "WIND" THE UNIT. PULLING THE CHAIN AT THE BOTTOM CAUSES THE CHIMES TO SOUND. THE CHIMES HAVE HOLES IN THE TOP THAT I ASSUME HAD A WIRE THAT RAN THROUGH THEM AND ATTACHED TO THE SCREW ON THE TOP BAR OF THE BOX. THE MECHANISM IS ALL BRASS. I'M NOT SURE WHAT METAL THE CHIMES AND FACE PLATE OF THE BOX ARE MADE OF. IT IS NOT PICKED UP BY A MAGNET AND HAS NO SIGNS OF RUST. EMAIL ME AT [email protected] FOR MORE PICS OR FUTHER INFO.
Pictures of bed and dresser
Plates appear to be handpainted as the surface is raised and not glossy. Also appears to have gold trim. On the back all of the plates have a red-orange mark (lettering) which appear to be in Chinese. I researched a bit and found a close match to the mark in a smaller famille dessert plate.
I received this from my grandmother. I believe she had since before I was born (1970). I can not offer much more information. I thought the joining on the drawers was interesting.
