This piece has been in my family for many years.....at least 75. The family was fairly well to do and lived in Rochester, NY.
The box is glass (amber). It weighs over 5 lbs. Please see photos. There are no marks on the piece that I can see. The rim and clasp (lock) is made of a gold overlay, or is brass.
It is hard to describe this vase because I have never seen one like it. It is made out of bronze. The decoration of the vase is hard to describe it has a white underlay which i can only describe as "crackle", on top of the white "crackle" are three different brightly colored butterfly's. The bottom goes from a light red (almost pink) to a darker red ending in an almost flame-like design approx. 2" up the vase-the height of the red varies around the vase.
Paintings obtained from an estate...no other information is known...three in a series of Spain??Mexico? oil on canvas signature looks like Miramar or Miriam...
I've tried to research the artist. Unfortunately the name isn't too uncommon. It was painted on a large pressboard (?) I'm not sure if it is oil or acrylic... the paint is thick.
