Gold Eagle Concave Mirror

Category
General Antiques and Collectibles
Condition
Fair
Description

This item was given to me a few years ago as a "tip" from an elderly couple who really appreciated my work, and were moving and didnt want to take it with them.

I stopped over by an antique shop, that specializes in English antiques.  They told me that although they don't know much about american antiques, they were able to tell me that they thought it was a piece from the late 1800's.

It has a solid wood frame, which is of gold color, possibly gold leaf, but I am unsure how to tell the difference. It has an eagle perched at the top of the frame, and 13 spheres surrounding the mirror itself (I am told this is to represent the 13 colonies). The frame is in excellent condition.

The mirror itself is a silver color. I am told this is a result of oxidation.  The mirror itself would have to be replaced, because it also appears to have some minor cracks on the inside of the mirror. (But the mirror itself is not shattered, its hard to explain).

On the back of the piece, there is paper (pictured) with writing in what appears to be a grease pencil.  It is torn a bit, and there is a section missing, but  18" is written on the back, which Im assuming is in reference to the width.  There are also some other numbers written: 4513  300-4513  and another one which is not legible to me at least.

Id like to know if anyone has any information on my item.  Ive seen similar pieces auction from $100-3500.  So Id like to just know what Im dealing with.  Thanks in advance!
