Antique Praying Buddah Statue

By happysale, 1 December, 2014
Description

These are photos of an Antique Praying Buddah Statue.  I am not sure of how old is the Buddah statue.  The Buddah statue is of bronze and measures 2.5" x 3".  It has worn surfaces on the statue indicating it was probably used in religious praying  ceremonies.  Would like to know what the inscription under the bottom of the statue says and what is the current value of such a statue?

Re: Antique Praying Buddah Statue

Hi,

It's Japanese and the inscription can be translated as "Kamamura no Daibutsu kokuho" (Kamakura's Daibutsu National Treasure).

It's a mini replica of the over 1,000 years Large bronze Buddha statue in Kamakura, Japan.

It's hard to place an age on this item since it's not dated, but you could get a clue of how old from the item's history or provenance.  Looking at your photos, item appears modern (post WWII).

It's usually placed in a home shrine or just collected as a souvenir. It's not rare.  Some of these mini statues are actually made of tin, copper, brass or bronze.

Regardless of the age, it's worth anywhere from $4.99 to $25 - you might be able to get $50 for it on a good day.

Best of luck.
