Appraiser Remarks
Without a documented provenance or inscription it's very difficult to determine the origins of walking sticks like this or any history relating two them. What we can tell you is many of them were one of a kind items, often custom made and were "Presentation Pieces" in other words a gift from family, an Association or Club the owner was a member of or from an employer for long service at retirement. Some were Military presentations, but most of those bore inscriptions to indicate their regiment, rank and service.
Most like this one date from the late quarter of the 19th century (1875-1900) when such canes were in fashion. Values vary, but most comparable examples to this one without a documented provenance tend to sell for less than $300.00.
