African Tribal Busts in the Style of the Baule People (Côte d’Ivoire)

Category
Fine Art
Condition
Good
Description

This is a striking pair of hand-carved wooden busts believed to be in the style of the Baule people of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa. Depicting a male and female figure, each bust features traditional stylized detailing—serene facial expressions, elongated necks, and intricately carved headdresses, with a sense of ancestral dignity and symbolic balance between the two.

Each piece is carved from extremely dense, heavy hardwood—possibly mahogany or a regional tropical hardwood—with visible aging, tool marks, and rich surface patina. Neither bust is signed, and there is no known provenance, though they may date back to the mid-20th century or earlier.

These busts may have served a decorative or spiritual role, representing ancestral figures or spirit spouses. Their craftsmanship and material suggest they were not made for mass tourism but as meaningful carvings within or adjacent to traditional Baule artistic practices.

Set of Mid-20th Century Charga-Plates Including John Wanamaker Example

Category
General Antiques and Collectibles
Condition
Excellent
Description

Description:
I’m submitting several original Charga-Plates for appraisal, including one from the iconicJohn Wanamaker Department Store with its original red leather case. Most are in good condition, showing typical signs of age with minor surface wear but clear embossing and intact structure. These appear to be mid-20th-century pieces, possibly from the 1940s–1950s, and were likely issued to store customers as early credit identification.

Of particular interest is the Wanamaker Charga-Plate, which has historical relevance given the brand’s presence in Philadelphia and New York. The remaining plates also include variations in design and issue location, and I’m curious whether any are considered rare or carry added value based on their merchant origin.

I’d appreciate insights on:
- Estimated current market value
- Rarity and collectibility
- Historical context

Let me know if close-up photos will help

Antique Hanging Lamp

Category
Lamps and Chandeliers
Condition
Good
Description

Antique or collectible hanging lamp. Found in antique/collectible shop in Maryland in the 90s. I was told it was from an estate sale. I never knew any history on it. I am wondering if anyone knows what type of lamp this is and the era it is from and possible value. It is approximately 3' in length and at top possibly 12 inches across, not sure, as it is in storage at this time.
