Vintage Spit Tobacco Glaze Pottery Creamer North Carolina

Category
Pottery
Condition
Fair
Description

Thank you for past appraisals.  I picked up this pottery creamer in Hickory North Carolina a couple weeks ago.  It appears to have what is known as a "spit tobacco" glaze.  The bottom also shows this dark glaze or perhaps it is just the dark brown earthenware glaze this is made from.  There are a couple unique characteristics to this.

1.  the word "Edna" is etched in the side.  I didn't know if this might be the maker or the maker making it for someone.

2.  The rim is flattened out as you can see from the picture which might be a certain makers style that may help us figure out the region or maker.

3.  I don't have a good picture of the handle but you can hold this in your palms and see how someone used their thumbs to shape and attach the it to the body.

4.  There is a large piece missing around the rim.

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have on this piece.  I can provide more pictures if needed.
