This was received as a gift. Others who have seen it say it is very valuable. I think it is beautiful and would like to know more about it. It is in perfect condition with no chips, wear or cracks.
When you open the hinged lid on the bottom of the interior is a painted beautiful flower.
Is is really Sevres? Can you tell when it was made? What is the value?
Pictures below show the back, the mark on the bottom, the front and side.
The item is an octagon shaped tray. The trim is wood with blue and gold paint. There are two brass handles, one on each side. The paper backing is cracking and peeling a little. There are four black rubber stops on the back about 1/4 in. tall. Under the glass the background looks like it is made of either cotton, or the inside of a pod from a tree. It looks very silky. The design is a metallic blue butterfly hovering over dried orange flowers and wheat looking stems.
I received the Coi as a gift in '07. I've been meaning to have it appraised but have'nt made it a priority. I know my jewels pretty well and I believe the Diamonds are real (about1 1/4 karats) . There is a small compartment under the top fin. It's beautiful and unique; I don't know what to do w/ it I just like looking at it. May sell it after I find out it's worth.
Picture is of pressed flowers with wooden frame. The back is original and has printed on it Western Berlin Germany aslo about 4 numbers that I cannot make out.
