WW1 heroes, pair of preserved carrier pigeons

Category
Militaria
Condition
Excellent
Description

One pair of preserved carrier pigeons in-cased in glass and wood. They are said to have provided communication service during WW1 and were deemed as "war heroes". The birds are identified by dated and numbered leg bands and a plaque which is inside the case.  The plaque reads: Old 76 and 89,  birds by late- Wm Chadwick Died in lofts of John and Sal Caligiuri .  Bird # 89 has 2 leg bands on the right leg.The lower band is from the NURP (the National Union of Racing Pigeons) and the upper band is from the NUHP (the National Union of Homing Pigeons) both date from 1914.   Bird # 76 has a band on the right leg from the NURP and one on the left leg from the NUHP, both dated from 1911.  There is a book that was given along with the birds that identifies and describes these pigeons as war heroes however, it is currently packed away and not in my immediate possession.  I do understand though, the book is still available to purchase in the book stores.  It should be titled " Pigeon War Heroes", or something along those lines.  If this is not something thats fits into the category of this type of appraisal I would be interested in obtaining (in your professional opinion)  the resources  best suited for this artifact.  In my (unprofessional opinion), I believe these birds qualify as museum quality and should be displayed such.

Twinette Salt and Pepper Shaker Gift Set

Category
General Antiques and Collectibles
Condition
Good
Description

What I have is boxed set of what is called Twinette salt and pepper shakers. It comes in a 4.5 x 4 x 1 inch cardboard box. Would have originally had 4 ea. Sets of shakers in groups of two. Each individual shaker stands almost two inches high and about 1 inch diameter at its widest point. The shakers bodies are like an etched glass. The cap is plastic, two sets are red and green. One set has blue caps and the last one has orange caps. The lids are metal with a spring loaded hinge to keep them shut and will also lock in the open postion. One set is missing the glass shaker bodies and only the cap assembly is left. The top cover of the box says: salt, pepper Twinette “protects against moisture and dirt”. The front side says: An ideal gift, Twinette. The right side says: Cannot spill, Twinette. The back side says: An ideal gift, Twinette, Central Equipment Co. Chicago. The left side says: For an attractive table, Twinette. The bottom of the box has stamp labeled Morris Paper Mills, Morris Illinois and is numbered B 19506. The front inside flap has made in USA on it. The color of the box is a brushed gold. The writing is in black and white. All the way around the sides of the box at the bottom it is marquee… SALT . PEPPER . SALT . PEPPER.

Uncle Tom's Cabin

Category
Books and Manuscripts
Condition
Good
Description

This is the cover, it's about 4x6, tiny bit faded on the front and along binding corner.

This is another picture of the binding.

That one was a little blurry. One page is missing, unfortunately the page with dates and copywrite, publishing information. The title page is disconnected, but still with the book. All other pages are well in tact.

I have a picture of the title page that isn't in tact.

Secretary Desk

Category
Furniture
Condition
Excellent
Description

As reported by my mother, an antique collector in her time, she purchased this two-piece desk for approx. $1500 back in the late 70's. It was apparently restored in some way, as indicated by the markings of former hardware. It is a really beautiful piece!
