Morris Chair

Category
Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

My 80 year old father has this chair.  He said his grandmother had it as long as he could remember, so he said it's probably at least 100 years old.  From what I've been able to find out, that sounds about right for a Morris chair, anyway.  He thinks the chair was already reupholstered when he received it, and then he had it custom reupholstered again in the late 1970s.  The cushions are separate.   The rod in the back appears to be brass or steel, I can't be sure.  It's black, but has glints that might be brass underneath.

My father said he was pretty sure his grandmother said the chair was made by a craftsman in Cincinnati Ohio. (USA).

Nothing other than the cushions has ever been replaced or repaired on the chair.  I'm not experienced with evaluating the condition of antiques, but I think it's in good condition.  The stain is obviously wearing off on the arms.

There does not appear to be any sort of identifying tag or logo anywhere on the chair.

The chair has a high back.  When I sit in it, the back is nearly above my head, and I'm over six feet tall.  The arms are high, but not uncomfortably so.

That's about all I know.  If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it.  Also, any idea of the value of the chair?  Thanks very much.
