Original U.S. Government General Land Office Wall map of California in 1900 showing land grants and Indian territory.

Category
Maps, Charts, and Nautical
Condition
Excellent
Description

This is a very large wall map of California in 1900 showing public land grants and Indian Territory. This is an official map made by the U.S. government in Wasington Dc, General Land Office. It is in excellent condition with very little browning, a few tiny stains on the top, no tears or mold or any other discoloration . It is very detailed, showing California as it was in 1900. Every creek, every hill, state parks, and even trails. It is apparent that the men who created this map put in a great amount of time and effort.

Asian Statue

Category
Asian Art
Condition
Good
Description

I inherited this piece in 1998. It was in the Jones family from Selma and I recieved it from Mabry Jones. The right foot is missing and there are a few chips of the paint gone. The veining in the skin is raised and the musculature is there as well. The head is out of proportion (larger) to the rest of the body but the detail and raised relief is there also. The bells have a nice tonal ring to them and the paint is still bright. I've not seen anything quite like it other than some statuary that was similar at the Birmingham, AL museum of Art.

Oil Painting on Slate By Smith

Category
Paintings
Condition
Good
Description

This is a beautiful oil on slate painting signed by smith. It depicts a sitting room from an era gone by. This picture really "grabs you" by its beautiful colors. It seems that the fram backing is wood with a synthetic type of material used to make the frame design. I would love to know more about wo the artist was, the age of the item, and its worth. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Antique European Pocket Watch

Category
Watches and Timepieces
Condition
Good
Description

Unknown British? Pocket watch. Case is silver and the moverment I think is brass, but I am not entirely certain. I don't know anything about it, other than my grandfather purchased it in London some time shortly after I was born in 1964. The face is white with Roamn numerals, and the numbers 37257 across the face above the hands. The watch opens 4 ways, and has numerous silver marks in two areas inside the case, both in the movement cover and on the back cover. There are intitials J.B. or J.R. and the #43 inside one of the covers. The back of the movement has some ornate floral work. It winds and and appears to work well. I would really like to know what it is, where it came from, and what the potential value is. I may be willing to part with it.
