My father got this but I don't know where or why. The vase has The Saint Louis World's Fair 1904 on it with a picture labeled as a USGovernment Building. I do know that at some point years ago, approx 60 years ago, some one afford my dad a very good price for it but my Dad declined.
My mother accidentally dropped some things on it and broke the back in several places. She glued it back together. It is not real noticeable but I am sure the damage greatly affects the price.
I have tried to find out more info on this for years. You would think that something as prominent as a World's Fair there would be all kinds of information about items from the fair.
All I know is that it was with the other things from my Great-grand parents. I know little about majolica. I was told by someone that they thought is was majolica.
Not really much I can add to it. If I think of something else I will add it here.
The cake service consists of 6 small plates and 1 large cake plat and cake slice server and bowl. On the large cake plate and bowl there is a picture of Geroge and martha washintgon sitting with lambs and on the small plates they are standing. He cake slice server is plane white with gols design. All of the plates have 22 karat gold overlay on the outside of them. The gold has designs in it like paisley and is a wide strip, about 3 inches wide all the way around the plates. The bowl just has gold on the edge and looks worn off. The plates have Warranted 22 Karat gold on the bottom and the bowl and cake slice server do not.
My son and I found this spoon at a yard sale in California. The spoon looks to be silver and has a sunflower at one end of the handle. The bowl of the spoon is stamped with "Oberammergau". Oberammergau is a town in Bavaria known for it's passion play, which began as a vow by the villagers in 1634 when God spared their village from the bubonic plague. On the back of the flower is stamped "800" plus some other letters that I cannot make out. I don't have a magnifying glass to see it clearly. Other than that info, I know nothing about this spoon. We bought it as a gift for my son's friend who collects spoons. I thought it would be nice to include some information about the gift. The spoon is not for sale. I just want some info on it if possible. (Approximate age, value, etc.)
The doll is about 20" high. Her hair is sewn onto a netting material and that is glued onto her head, quite firmly. After careful examination I can not find any country listed as origin. The numbers 7 3/4 & 154 are found just under the lower part of the wig. Further down as in picture there is a CT (?) that is written in maybe pen (?) She has beautiful brown eyes and open mouth with 4 teeth. I tried taking a picture of the numbers but they didn't come out real good. She has a little necklace on her but don't know if that came with the doll or was added by someone. Her socks and shoes can come off, I think. I don't like to pull around on her too much as she is very fragile.
The only thing I know for sure about this doll was that it did belong to my Great Aunt. She slept with this doll most of her life. [Long story :) ]
I would like to have her restored but afraid if would be very costly. Really don't know what to do. Sell her so she can be preserved or leave like she is?
