Signed BOUCHER also has a serial number but i can not make it out. Tried with a jewelry loupe still unable to get it clear.
Another beautiful pieces i inherited.
I have many signed pieces from different artist and era's. I have no daughter's to pass them down to so i hope to have someone get these that can keep them in thier families.
The carving is all over, top, all sides, inside of lid.
Walnut carved. removeanle tray with rings holder down the center of the tray
Piano hinge
Lock ( but no key )
Pattern appears to be of a hunting theme . It shows hunters with weapons , animals such as camels, deer, ect. living quarters ( i assume) with some type of trees or plants behind them.
the only thing that "sticks out" to me as being different is the top lower right hand corner of the box. there the carving of a man plowing land by oxen(?) is framed out in a boxed area, possible a signature for the artist.unsure.
the lift grip to open by is actually a Gun barrel being held by a hunter
The carving is an absolute beauty, dark colored, and full coverage carvings. Alot of work went into this piece and i have tried for years to find info on it. The closest i have came is a blog that was created by a gentleman paying tribute to his family and thier times in india in the year of 1903. he has a photo on the page of boxes that are similiar to mine. ( i will update this posting with his link once given premission) And that showed the price the family member paid for it way back then. WOW .
The inside tag reads:
Hand Made by
M. Sadak Ali & Bros
3rd Bridge
Srinagar-Kashmir
NO....36.....
I am attempting to get the best photo's loaded to show the workmanship of the carving, it is beautiful , detailed, stunning !!
It is needing to be cleaned , but i have been afraid to do so until i know exactly what i have to know how to care for it without inflicting damage .
A beautiful Van Dell signed Brooch has a number 3 on it as well. I have not been able to find any other Van Dell piece that is numbered. So any info into this will be greatly appreciated. I have attempted to contact anyone or any site i can find for research on this brooch .
This is one of the hundreds of signed pieces i have inherited.
Collection was left to me , i have no daughters to pass it down to so hope to appraise and get it sold to someone that can value this piece.
Cameo is possible a shell, not sure. The stem has JHP signature . my research from the cameo image leads me to think it is from the 1850's. no ear is seen on the image
cameo is set by prongs, no glues. Carving is very beautiful. light test from behind cameo is very good. Woman image , facing right. possible that it is a feather on her head wrap.
