FATHER JIGGS CERAMIC CONTAINER

Category
Ceramics and Porcelains
Condition
Excellent
Description

I have a ceramic cantainer of sorts depicting the character "Father Jiggs" from the old comic Bringing Up Father.  I am not really for sure what the container its...it is like a jug of sorts has a cork stopped rim at top, upon removal of the cork not odor is present inside...the back side has two holes to hold some object.   The depiction is Jiggs standing with one hand in his pocket, one hand holding a cane and a cigar in his mouth.  The container is 6" tall (not including the height of the stopper top) , napprox 5" across and about 4" deep.  It has the number 10326 I  on the backside.  It is in very good conditon, no cracks or chips...we wonder if maybe it is supposed to have a top piece to it maybe...not sure.

Asian Wooden Cup

Category
Asian Art
Description

> I have an Oriental wooden cup about 4.5 inches tall. It is a light brown
> wood with a single handle about .5 inches thick. The cup has a geisha
> looking at what appears to be a scroll with writing. She is standing next to
> a strange looking rectangular box with red symbols and what looks like a
> crutch in the middle of it (it looks like it might be some kind of dressing
> room divider that is folded up). There is also some writting running
> vertically next to the rectangular box about .5 inches in length (it might
> be the artist). Next to the vertical writing is a seperate room. In the room
> there is a small blossom tree in a rectangular plant holder on top of a
> rectangular red carpet. The entire cup is covered in gloss finishing. It
> does have a few cracks on the sides. I have researched online and can not
> find one similar to it.

However, I do believe the artist may be Kitagawa Utamaro based off some of his other work I have been looking at.

Can anyone give me anymore detailed information as to what this is and its potential value?

STAINED GLASS CHURCH CEILING LAMP

Category
Lamps and Chandeliers
Condition
Excellent
Description

I bought this lamp at a local Antique dealer 10 years ago.

The only information available was that it was part of a pair that once hung in a Quebec church.

I still see is as an art piece ... exquisite when lit!

I'd really appreciate any price comments.

Thank You!

Arturo Toscanini Austin Prod. 1968 Plaster Bronze Bust Mazzone

Category
Ceramics and Porcelains
Condition
Fair
Description

I came across this sculpture today and purchased it for a very good price. I know it's an Austin Prod. (Production) piece from 1968. There is another mark on it, it says "Mazzone 68." It does have some damage to it with some chips in the paint and the plaster.

I did discover it was a bust of the famous music conductor Arturo Toscanini.

Does anyone know what the value of this bust is? I may be listing it soon on eBay.

The Sonnets of John Milton & Of The Imitation Of God

Category
Books and Manuscripts
Condition
Fair
Description

Hi, I was helping my grandmother clean out her house, and we discovered these two old books buried in her closet. She says that she inherited them from her grandmother, and kept them because they could be valueable. The books are The Sonnets of John Milton edited by Mark Pattison published in New York by D. Appleton and Company with the printed date of 1898, and Of The Imitation Of Christ by Thomas A Kempis published by the same company but with the date of 1896. Both Books are hardcover, and have guilded pages and spines. The spine on The Sonnets of John Milton are tearing, and have old tape holding the spine cover in place. Both books also have a strange tissue looking page that covers an image printed on the page before the title. Despite the covers showing the age on both books, the pages are in suprisingly good condition. some slight sticking of the pages, but no noticable tears or markings. Could I get a rough espimate as to the prices of these books? Since we found them my grandmother is anxious to know if it was worth saving them all these years. Thanks!

P.S. Sorry about the horrible picture quality, I had to use my grandmothers old digital camera.
