Table with Tile from Truman White House Renovation 1947

Category
American Furniture
Condition
Excellent
Description

The owner received a tile from the White House renovation under Truman from a friend who worked on the renovation.  The owner placed the tile in the top of an antique table, which can be easily popped out of the top of the table.  Notes about where the item came from, including dates, were written by the owner on the back of the tile.  I am looking for an appraisal of both the table and tile.  It will be for sale locally at an estate sale beginning Friday, Aug. 19.  The tile was a surprise and was found as I was cleaning the piece.  I don't have any reason to doubt the authenticity as I have found numerous notes on items kept meticulously by the owners over the years.  There were no maker's mark on the table.

1926 Electrex Jr. x228

Condition
Fair
Description

This was a thrift store or yard sale purchase about 15 years ago.  I don't remember the price.

white painted wood handle brittle paint but the wood is good.

"on the STANDARD" appliance plug:   u.s. pat. 8-3-26 & pat's pend.  can.pat. 1-18-27   600V  250W

on the back of the iron is stamped: electrex jr. x228   united drug co.   volts 110- watts

sorry can't read the watts

I've plugged it in and the tempurature topped 380 degrees, after that my thermometer just reads Hi.  It does seem to stay between 350 and 378.  I went back and checked it a few times.

I love it and think it is beautiful because of the era.  I bought it to use as a novelty door stop to my sewing room.  But have had it in storage about 15 years.

Susan
