This piece is in great condition. It is a Salem Bicentennial Cup to commemorate the 200th anniversary of US Independence. it is No 104 of a limited edition of 750.
This is a description given in the Dec. 1976 edition of The Rotarian pg. 46. "A 23-carat gold band encircles the top and base of the Salem cup, acting as a frame for the pictorial symbols. Two flags dramatically represent the separation of the original 13 colonies from England" "a careful reproduction of the signatures of the Declaration of Independence.. The US eagle, sculpted in gold, stands protectively on each side of the cup" "Officials at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, were so impressed by Don's handiwork that the first cup was chosen as one of three items constituting the Smithsonian's permanent bicentennial collection."
The base says it was designed by Don Schreckengost I.D.S.A
This i think is hand painted (i cannot see any dot pattern under magnification) and is one of a pair also the scenes on both are the same but not identical. the opening on top is only about 11mm diameter, they are moulded evident by a line running across base. the painting looks reasonable quality. I would really like to know who they are by and what they are.
A friend was given a old tool box from an elderly gentleman and they were in the top drawer.our friend took the old tools and gave my husband the tool box and me the coasters. They are very intersting to me and I would like to know more about them and how old they are. They have small beaded likedesign around top rim andon bottom rim also. They are silver or silver plate the inside of coaster has a piece of material that looks to me like leather, covered by a piece of clear glass. The bottom says,by CREST MFG.CO.
