The Swinger vintage ashtray

Category
Other
Description

This is a really neat old item that I ran across while cleaning out my great uncle's barn before destruction. I haven't been able to find much information on it personally (you know all those search engines...I got referred to a bunch of swinger sites), but I'm sure that someone remembers these things. It's a really neat ashtray that probably wasn't out on the market for long because they started adding ashtrays in cars and things. I'm thinking this was around the late 50's or early 60's- based on the automobile that is pictured on the packaging.
This ashtray was made to be installed into your car or plugged in on airplanes, even, according to the packaging. The ashtray is affixed to a 'stationary' piece which would be put into the dash of the car or somewhere similar. The ashtray part swings on the fixed piece so that it "swings" back and forth as necessary to prevent spills. It is a round depository area with a removable top to empty it out, with the stationary piece attached at the top sides. On the removable top is also a little round spiral that fits into the top and is meant to hold your cigarette in place. The ashtray is in great shape, and everything comes with it except for the screws. It also comes with the original box, which is a little beat up and missing some top flaps, but it is basically all there and in satisfactory condition. The only possible flaw I see with the ashtray is that on the inside there seems to be some rust buildup. In any event, it is not corroded enough to interfere in the use or display of this item.
The ashtray measures about 3 1/2" high with the top and cigarette holder on it. It also has an open top diameter of 3 1/2". It is constructed of plastic (the main body) and metal (a bottom part inside the holder and all of the accessories) and was produced by Winfab in Montpelier, Ohio.
On the box, it shows the ashtray can be used on boats, cars, trailers, planes, golf carts, etc. On the bottom of the box sides it says "Holds it Firm and Level." The box also includes a side with the installation instructions on it.
I might consider selling this for the right offer.
