I would just like to know if anyone has a remote estimate for what a set such as this could sell for. It is in really good condition, no apparent scratches, or dents/dings. I would really like to sell it to someone that would appreciate it more than I ever could, or if they could complete their own set with the purchace of this one. I would like to sell it soon, so if your interested; or if you aware where I can sell this please send me a message! Thanks!!
I purchased the attached sofa and chair with intricate carvings and fabric in excellent condition. The owner states that they belonged to her aunt who passed it to her mother where she got it. She states the fabric is silk and the seat cushions are horse hair and down. The tag confirms down.
These tapestries were obtain by William Christian Paul, and given as a present to Clifford W and Althea M. Valentin who was a close friend of Mr. Paul, and had dinner with them on many occasions. They are said to be of the Emperor Tao Kuang Era (1821-1851). One of the tapestry has a detailed newspaper article dated Monday, July 14, 1930 on the back of the frame that gives full details of the life and collection of rare old tapestries and textiles obtained through out Mr. Pauls life. An upon his death bequeathed the Metropolitian Museum of Art a priceless collection of old Chinese tapestris and textiles.
It had to be cleaned up quite a bit when we brought it home. Upholstery has been redone at some point, but restoration is not necessary. It is in pretty good condition though obviously has some wear and tear. The construction is solid wood with no nails or other hardware. The carving on both the lettering and the coat of arms is quite definitely hand carving.
Can anyone tell me anything about this piece. I would very much like it valued.
