I got this from my grandma when my grandpa died. I know nothing about it other than grandma said it was his favorite in his collection. Any help would be gladly appreciated. It's all one solid peice of wood, and has a loop in the forehead.
I have a pair of Nutcracker barstools. I think they are Volkmar Matthes barstools but I am not too sure. One is black and one is brown as shown in the picture. They are in great shape with little wear and tare. Also with the barstools is a carved wooden bar with a matching wall art piece. I know next to nothing about these two piece. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is a set of hand made wooden bowls, all of which are unique and all of which have different Chinese writing on the bottom. They stand in a wooden stand that is made of the same dark, lighweight wood. The rack is all hand made too with mortised joints and the rack keeps the plates in place. One of the veritcal pieces of the rack is hinged and folds out and down so that the plates are accessible. 4 of the plates have cracks from the edge to the inner rim, but not all the way through the whole bowl. Some of the bowls have what appears to be woven wire on the lower inner edge at the bottom. The Chinese characters on the bottom of each bowl are different and are hand inked onto the bowls. The rack measures 22" High and is 8" x 8" square. The plates all measure approximately 7 1/4" in diameter. When put together, the set is amazingly light, so I am unable to identify the wood used in the making of this set.
I dont know much about this set. My grandma left this to me when she died. She was born in Germany in 1917 and lived there until the 1950s. She always told me it was valuable, but I want to find more about it. Time period, manufacturer ect. If anybody could help it would be much appreciated.
