The teapot has a hinged lid and is emblazon with a flower and grecko roman pattern and a scalped handle spout which looks like a swan mouth. The other pieces match. The bottom of each piece has the signature Meriden B. Company & sclaes and "1800" beneath the signature. In addition, I have a very heavy silver tray which I purchased with this, but I do not believe it belongs to the set. There are no markings on the bottom of the tray. The set needs to be cleaned. Should I clean it with silver polish?
Lion/Tiger pen & ink drawing. William Wharton signature. Lion on white paper, Tiger on yellow paper.
I understand that William Wharton, artist and author, signed his art, Albert William Du Aime, not his pen name, William Wharton. I believe these copies to be by someone else.
What is not to love about this dish. It has a very unique shape and the picture with the church in the back ground , the cherry blossoms, the added touch of mixed media makes it perfect. I have always used it as a ring holder beside my bed, just so the picture would always be visible.
The only negative, its that there is a slight chip on of the points. I only realized it was there just now while I was measuring. In essence I have spent the last decade thinking it was perfect.
