This is an original US Army Signal Corps "RadioPhoto" of General Alfred Gustav Jodl signing the instrument of surrender under which the remaining German forces are to lay down their arms in unconditional surrender on May 7, 1945. This starts "VE Day"!

General Jodl is at center, and I believe that's Admiral Doenitz to his left.

The scanned image doesn't do it justice.  The photograph is actually much brighter and clearer that depicted.

 I inherited this and 6 other oil paintings from my grandmother. I am 53 years old and I remember these paintings in her house when I was growing up. She died in 1969 and for that era was pretty wealthy. 

I just wanted to know if there is any value.

    I've tried to give as much info as I can on this crate. I was hoping someone more knowledgeable in WWII equipment would have more specific information on how this was used and how much it might be worth. Thank you for helping.

Very ornate detailed hand worked engraving (it is evident on the outside)

Just curious as to what and where if anyone has any clues.

We suspect it was brought over or crafted by the immigrants to northern California during the Gold Rush or Rail Road Expansion era of the late 1800's.
