We have three of these chairs, one armless, one armed and one armed rocker that came with a vacation cottage in the Catskills built in 1894. The number is from the armless chair.
there are 2 oval paintings with i believe cherry wood frames.The first one is of a litehouse and a smaller building surrounded by mountains and water.Part of the small building has either mother of pearl or abalony shell as part of the window.The painting is on the inside of the glass.The second pic is of a house with trees,water and mountains surrounding the house.The peak of the house also has mother of pearl or abalony.
The front of the lock says 12 admiralty, four brass levers, H.M.S., genuine solid brass. The back says jas. morgan & sons ltd., justin square, locksmiths by appointment, drain. Has 2 keys both with the number 12 on them.
A bone broach, painted blue (I believe it is an iris) with a yellow center and green stem/leaves. This has been worn as the something blue on a wedding dress since my grandmother's (who is 91) great grandmother (to our knowledge). My family is British, from the south of England.
It is a piece of scrimshaw with two drawings on it; one on either side. One is of a a woman looking out at a ship, and the ship says HOPE on one of the sails. The woman also appears to be leaning on something but i dont know what it is. On the reverse side is a picture of a ship and an anchor. There is also a design around the tip of the tooth that is a bunch of triangles.
I'm not sure what this piece of furniture is called or when it was
manufactured, the 70¹s, I imagine.
I bought it on impulse in 2006 for $400.00.
It sat for weeks on my balcony unattended as I decided what to do.
Brilliantly crafted except for the Avocado relief.
I eventually found a refinisher and paid $750.00 to refinish IT along with
two other pieces. A steal!
Lo and behold this gem is Mahogany!
The beauty of the piece is that it closes up into a compact chest of
drawers.
Add 2 leaves it transforms into my daily workstation.
Add the other 3 (5 total) leaves and it becomes my 7 foot dining room table!
